The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour. Le Grand Tour. El Gran Tour. The epic adventure of epic adventuring. A whole year of exploring our beautiful planet and drinking in new experiences.

Or at least, that's how I hope it'll go. The plan currently looks like this but is very much open to change.

June 13th - The Adventure Begins

By which I mean I'm flying to Iceland for the first leg. Geysers, puffins and Vikings will be sought out.

Flying to Halifax, Nova Scotia to start my crossing of Canada. There will be many buses and trains involved and I'm going to really appreciate having earplugs.

August 28th - Heading North

This is, currently, the last fixed date I have. Having spent a couple of weeks roadtripping the Rockies with my mother and sister, I'll be flying north to Alaska. Maybe I'll see some bears? That'd be cool...

Mid September - Due South

After a week or two in Alaska, I plan to head on down to the Lower 48, making my way through a few national parks and taking a few more dreaded overnight buses.

Peru and the beginning of my language barrier struggles. Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca... altitude sickness...

Struggling on dates now - To the ends of the earth

Planning to go to Tierra del Fuego at the very tip of South America. Plus stargazing in the Atacama, of course.

6 weeks (or more) in New Zealand, land of awesomeness and Hobbits.

Mid December - Another shrimp on the (Christmas) barbie?

Make tracks for Australia in time to hopefully see relatives around Christmas and New Year.

Which is of course Khmer for "do you speak English?". So north to Cambodia (and any other bit of S.E. Asia I fancy at this point)...

A long awaited return to South Africa and the International Primate Rescue monkey sanctuary.

Maybe a safari if I still have money. If not, on to Europe.

June... July... whatever damn month it is at this point: HOME.

Or maybe more travelling. Maybe I'll get a working holiday visa somewhere and throw ALL THE DATES OUT. Maybe.
